Making a name for itself out on the North Fork of Long Island is the Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard, owned by husband and wife team Anthony and Lisa Sannino. This vineyard isn’t just producing great wine — it’s also home to a full bed and breakfast, a tasting room, as well as a center for comprehensive wine education open to the public.
Anthony Sannino started his wine journey back in 1981 when he was a teenager visiting his mother’s home of Naples, Italy, which is covered in wine grapes. His great-uncle was still producing wine in the cellar of his mother’s childhood home, and after shadowing him for the summer, Anthony’s interest in winemaking grew.
Since then, he’s taken every opportunity to educate himself professionally and in 2006, he bought the land in Cutchogue and built the vineyard.
Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard is part of the Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing organization which focuses on educates and certifies Long Island vineyards in the sustainable methods of winemaking, and they pride themselves on their own practices.
Their classes range from tours of the growing and processing areas to expert master classes on blending techniques, helping to inform the amateur wine lover on the art of viticulture. For those just looking for a gorgeous wine tasting experience, their tasting room offers views of the East End of Long Island with a stunning tasting menu set in a historic barn.
