Dine Seasonally with a Farm-to-Table Dinner

Although the city of New York may lack in fresh, natural farming, we have the absolute pleasure of being surrounded by it throughout the Northeast. There are farms all around us in upstate New York, Connecticut and New Jersey that provide delicious, organic produce, and you can get it in many forms. One way is your local grocery store, although it tends to be a bit more expensive. Another is at a farmer’s market which is a great, family-friendly way to do your grocery shopping. The best way, in our opinion, to enjoy wonderfully fresh food is through a farm-to-table dinner, especially if that dinner is paired with some tasty wine.

What is a farm-to-table dinner, you ask? Well, it’s simply what its name states: a multiple-course meal made up of dishes that are created only from locally sourced, in-season resources. This means that every part of the meal is as fresh as you can possibly get! These dinners happen all over the country and traditionally are held during the spring, summer, and fall, as that’s when most produce is abundant.

These dinners can be held either on the farms themselves or even in some restaurants. Here in NYC, we are lucky to have many fine dining establishments that pride themselves on serving only the freshest of ingredients from right here in the tri-state region.

If you’re looking for more of a rustic, outdoor experience, check out Outstanding In the Field which offers many events all over the country, especially here in the Northeast. Hurry, though, as there are only a couple more dates left before it gets too chilly!

Blue Hill at Stone Farms in Tarrytown offers a fantastic dinner, served all year long, in which every course is created only from products they grow on their own farm, including the livestock. It’s a lovely 45-minute drive away and is perfect for a city escape.

The good news is you don’t have to even leave Manhattan to get a fantastic farm fresh experience! Restaurants like Brooklyn Fare, Foragers Table, and Market Table offer menus featuring only seasonal produce, giving you a delicious farm experience without getting your shoes dirty.

While these meals can be a little bit on the expensive side, they offer you an experience that you will never forget. Your menu will be designed with care by the executive chef, and your wine list will match your dishes to perfection. If you’ve never gotten to enjoy a seasonally fresh meal like a farm-to-table dinner, now is the chance! Autumn is the season of amazing produce, and New York provides some of the best.
