2018 Harvest East End: All-Star Lineup
We’re super excited for all of our events this summer, each of them having a unique purpose and spirit, but one that we’re most looking forward to is the Harvest East End event on Long Island on August 4th. This celebration will be one for the ages and not only features the delicious wines of Long Island but also shines a spotlight on the innovators and winemakers of one of the country’s most up and coming wine regions.
“This event will offer a comprehensive Long Island Wine experience and promises to be a great opportunity to meet the men and women that make this wine community so great!” says Juan Micieli-Martinez, winemaker at Martha Clara Vineyards and event chairperson.
The unique feature of this event is that every year, even if the same winemakers were featured, the wines would be different because every vintage is different. This year, the honorees are Bill Sanok, Ron Goerler Sr. and posthumously Lyle Wells. Bill Sanok is Long Island’s first viticulturist and worked hard to get the LI wine region on the map. Ron Goerler Sr. is the founder and owner of Jamesport Vineyards, not only a proud partner of New York Wine Events but also a force within the New York wine community and revered for their sustainable farming efforts.
Lyle Wells was an integral part of the Long Island farming community, operating his family owned farm which was established in 1661 and is an institution in the region. Wells was a lifelong advocate for sustainable farming and was a big supporter of the local winemakers. He passed a few months ago in an unfortunate farming accident and will be honored at this year’s event for his dedication to the community.
Each year, the Harvest East End event strives to honor and feature the community’s leaders in winemaking, as well as newcomers like Del Vino Vineyards, the new winemaker team at Martha Clara Vineyards, and Rockwell Wines.
Proceeds from this event will help fund sustainable research at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County and help the folks at Hudson River Health Care. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, now is the time to do it!
